Over the years, I’ve worked with many different papers, both in my own practice and while teaching, searching for one that truly responds to the brush. This Xuan paper is the one I consistently return to and recommend.

Handmade using traditional techniques, this Xuan paper features a soft, even texture and a naturally balanced fibre structure.
It is known for its excellent ink absorption and smooth diffusion. The paper allows for expressive brushwork, subtle tonal transitions, and precise control. It responds beautifully to both bold and delicate strokes, capturing the full character of ink.
Due to its long format, this paper is also very practical for practice. I recommend cutting each sheet into 3 sections, making it easier to use while reducing material waste.
Ideal for Chinese calligraphy, this paper performs especially well with traditional ink. As a raw (unsized) Xuan paper, it is more absorbent, allowing ink to spread naturally, creating soft edges and organic, expressive effects.
Suitable for both beginners and experienced artists. When working with raw paper, I recommend adjusting ink load and brush pressure to achieve the desired result.
The paper is carefully packaged and shipped flat to ensure it arrives in perfect condition.
