Discover how Linmo Studio brought Chinese calligraphy to hundreds of visitors during China Day at the Chinese Embassy in Warsaw.

Chinese Calligraphy at the Chinese Embassy in Warsaw — Linmo Studio at China Day

On June 2nd, the Chinese Embassy in Warsaw hosted China Day, a public event bringing together hundreds of students, academics, and businesspeople.

The event featured humanoid robots, electric vehicles, and models of China’s Tiangong space station. Linmo Studio has the honour to be invited to run the calligraphy workshop during the China Day.

China Day was opened by Ambassador Lu Shan, who described the embassy as a place of dialogue and exchange for Warsaw’s residents and expressed hope for strengthened Polish-Chinese cooperation.

What Happened at the Calligraphy Tables

At the Chinese Embassy’s central garden, Linmo Studio hosted an interactive Chinese calligraphy workshop with traditional materials provided for all participants.

Over two hours, nearly 90% of China Day attendees took part, making it one of the event’s most engaging activities. By inviting visitors to write and create, the workshop transformed cultural appreciation into a hands-on experience.

The workshop focused on the Chinese character “福” (Fu), a symbol of good fortune, blessings, and prosperity in Chinese culture.

Linmo Studio calligrapher Yating Liu introduced participants to different historical styles of the character, from seal and clerical script to regular and cursive forms. Visitors then selected their favorite version and created their own calligraphy artwork using traditional brushes and Xuan paper.

During the two-hour session, an estimated 300–500 visitors participated, with lines forming throughout the event as attendees eagerly waited for their turn.

For many guests, it was their first experience using a Chinese brush or writing Chinese characters. Yet the workshop demonstrated how art can transcend language barriers, offering a direct and meaningful way to connect with Chinese culture.

“Children were especially eager to participate, but adults quickly joined in as well—asking questions, taking photos, and eventually picking up the brush themselves.” — Dziennik Trybuna, China Day coverage, June 2026

Why Chinese Calligraphy Matters for Event Activation

Chinese calligraphy (书法, shūfǎ), meaning “the art of writing,” is one of the world’s oldest living art traditions.

For centuries, it has been valued as a cornerstone of Chinese culture, alongside painting and poetry. Each character combines language, history, and artistic expression in a single form.

Why People Enjoy Chinese Art Hands-On Experience

  • Improve focus and mindfulness:  Writing with a brush encourages concentration and a calm, present mindset.

  • Experience Chinese culture firsthand:  Discover the history, symbolism, and traditions behind Chinese characters.

  • Enjoy a creative practice: Explore the beauty of ink, brushwork, and composition in a relaxing environment.

  • Create a unique keepsake: Take home a piece of calligraphy made entirely by your own hand.

  • Learn Chinese characters naturally:  Writing characters is one of the most effective ways to understand and remember them.
