“Quick Dive” by Linmo Studio is a 3 hours workshop designed for anyone who wants to immerse themselves in the world of Chinese calligraphy.
During the session, you can choose from characters and well-wishes I’ve prepared, or create something entirely your own. At the end, we’ll make authentic scrolls or other artistic forms, which you’ll of course take home with you.
Workshop Highlights
This workshop is an immersive exploration of a 3,000-year-old tradition. We invite you to experience the core charm of Chinese calligraphy through:
A Visual Journey through the Five Major Styles: From the ancient, architectural Seal script (篆书) and the elegant Clerical script (隶书) to the disciplined Regular script (楷书), the flowing Running script (行书), and the expressive Cursive script (草书).
The Four Treasures of the Study: Gain an intimate understanding of the brush, ink, paper, and inkstone, the essential tools that define the tactile beauty of the literati’s studio.
Hands-on Practice
We emphasize a “learning by doing” approach, guiding you through the creation of your own artwork from scratch:
Foundational Brushwork: Master the professional techniques of holding the brush, dipping the ink, and the core mechanics of movement and pressure.
Creation on Authentic Xuan Paper: Experience the unique textures of raw and treated rice paper through guided practice and imitation of classical masterpieces.
Personalized Masterpiece: You will conceptualize and write a specific character or word that carries personal meaning to you.
Traditional Mounting: Finalize your work on a traditional hanging scroll, a folding fan, or a classic frame.
Theoretical Insights
Evolution of Scripts: Learn how Chinese characters transformed from ritualistic Oracle Bone inscriptions into a sophisticated form of daily artistic expression.
The Soul of the Brush: An analysis of calligraphy as “Heart-Drawing” the philosophical belief that every stroke reveals the writer’s character, emotion, and inner state.
The Art of Appreciation: Develop an eye for calligraphy by learning how to evaluate composition (structure), ink density (dryness vs. moisture), and overall spatial balance.

About the Instructor
Chinese calligraphy workshops for beginners are my speciality, and as your instructor, I’ll guide you on this artistic journey.
I am Yating — a creative producer who has lived in Poland for six years. I began learning Chinese calligraphy in the style of regular script when I was 7 years old, and those strict early lessons remain my most profound artistic influence.
Two years ago, when a friend asked about Chinese calligraphy and how to hold the brush, the idea for these workshops first took root. Now I’m happy to share this art with you.
Whether you seek a creative discipline, a mindful pause, or simply a new way to connect with this cultural experience, I’ll be beside you for every stroke.
